Finding an Aluminum Horse Trailer for My Special Horse
_________________________________________________
Now that I know I’m going to purchase the horse of my dreams, I want
her to be as comfortable when we travel as possible.
I don’t have a two ton truck, mine is a half ton,
so I want a lightweight
horse trailer -
obviously aluminum.
It would be best to have a bumper pull, I think,
rather than a gooseneck, because of weight and the
lesser strength of my truck
It’s amazing the choices I found when began to shop!
The Sundowners are gorgeous and have so many
great features, I wanted to stop right there.
But it appeared they only offer aluminum trailers
for two or more horses.
Since I know I’ll only have one horse for a long
time, I’m continuing my search.
I looked at the Featherlite options and found an 11 ft. trailer for one
or two horses.
I liked the small size and light weight, only
1800 pounds.
It has a unique flip-up rear door and ramp.
And since I’ve begun my research into horse
breeds, used western saddles and parts, I’m kicking
around purchasing a
miniature horse.
It sounds like one would be a great little pet,
and a good companion for my large horse.
So having the added two-horse feature in my
trailer will be a benefit.
Moving on in my quest, I looked at some Silver Stars.
I did a quick look at their site, but didn’t see
any smaller varieties with a small live-in quarter
included for me.
I sort of like that feature.
So on to some Titans.
The Titans are made with a “Galvanneal” product, which I may research.
But I’m really set for now on aluminum, so I’m
off to another brand.
The new Calico horse trailers are steel, but I’m sticking with
aluminum, so more searching!
I’ve ruled out trailers with living quarters for me at this point.
Hopefully I’ll trade up in the future.
But since I’m starting from scratch, I should
keep expense in mind.
I’ll sleep in my truck.
I found some SilverLite models with non living
quarters.
Their Bandit Series is a great entry level trailer – the
bumper pull will accommodate one or two horses.
I also like the Exiss bumper pull models.
They carry a slantload model
with an open layout which has two air gaps on
each side.
Nice and airy for Buttercup.
But I think I’m going to take another look at the Featherlite aluminum
11 ft. trailer.
It appealed to me once I ruled out fancier horse
trailers.
